When I flew to Africa for the first time five years ago, I had no idea the experience was going to change my entire life. We meant to shoot for the UN Refugee programme in order to fundraise in Germany to build more schools. But people met us with scepticism. Many people had been there trying to help, but it had never worked out.
When we returned a year later to inspect the finished school buildings, children with sparks in their eyes greeted us with their gratitude and curiosity. I admined the people, so battered by civil war, yet making the best of their situation and bursting with energy. In that moment I realised that all of us, be it politicians, businessmen, companies and myself had to develop a sense of responsibility for the inequalities in the world. I became adicted to learning more about Africa and its history, and to using my high popularity to sensitise others.
When I met a few members of GoAhead! for the first time I was amazed how much time and passion they put into their work. I was delighted to be offered to be an ambassador for GoAhead!. Especially children who nobody feels responsible for deserve our full attention, and education is the only way out of poverty and inequality. So don't look away, become part of the movement! Help us! Because their is nothing more beautiful than a child's sparkling eyes.
