School workshops
GoAhead! offers school workshops on "South Africa, poverty and AIDS - problems and perspectives"
For us "education" starts in Germany - in the sense of education on development and Africa. We want to sensitise young people in the western world for development issues and propagate knowledge in this area. School workshops are a great way to reach the young generation.
For an exam thesis in Geography at Trier University, GoAhead! volunteer Katharina Rochell developed a didactical concept for school workshops on South Africa. Together with GoAhead!, she tested the concept on grade 9 / 10 pupils at a school in Lower Saxony.
The workshop deals with the social and economic challenges slowing down development in South Africa. It is split into three basic phases: communicating basic knowledge, working groups on "poverty" and "HIV / AIDS" and a simulated conference where solution strategies are presented. Optionally, a third group can write a workshop paper documenting the discussion.
