30/12/2008: Radio report on the soccer games at Heidelberg University
Beginning of November 2008, the college of German language and literature at Heidelberg University organized a benefit soccer game. Among other teams, the students and professors of the German language and literature college played for Go Ahead! The profit of those games will be credited to the GoAhead!-project 2008, a learning centre in South Africa. The radio station of the university reported this event and made interviews with some players and the organizing team from GoAhead! You can download this report or listen to it here in the Flash-Player.
As the year is drawing to a close, GoAhead! is looking back on 12 very successful months. Our goal to finance a Learning Centre in KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa) with more than 50,000 € has been reached. The final donations for the running of the institution will be collected shortly. All over Germany and even in the US, college groups were founded by students. Our "Homes of Hope" team built a house in South Africa in March.
But we are already looking forward to next year. A "youth ambassador" program, supported by a 15,000 € grant from the province of Baden-Württemberg, is ready to take off.
Without our supporters, donors and campaigners such a successful second year would not have been possible. We would like to thank you all in the name of those children who are gaining access to education through your work and help. We hope to achieve equally great things next year.
Merry christmas and a happy new year!
16/12/2008: Princeton University college group founded in America
Another milestone has been reached: GoAhead! is now present in the USA. In November, a group of students at ivy league university Princeton decided to found a college group. The process of registration as an official Princeton society has already started.
The group's aim is to introduce GoAhead!and its vision to the university and to manage other campaigns across the US. The first events are already planned. The members recently had the chance to meet the world famous "Soweto Gospel Choir" in person (pictured). As soon as the society is registered, we will start to post more news about them. The GoAhead team is very happy that the word has spread across the pond and welcomes our new international friends! Special thanks go to Lea Steinacker for initialising the group. We are convinced it will be successful and look forward to watching it develop!
11/12/2008: World AIDS day
GoAhead's campaigns were spread across several cities. The various local groups presented themselves with information kiosks and sold waffles and mulled wine.
In Bremen, the group stuck out the cold weather for three hours to take €100 in donations and raise awareness for the group and the Learning Centre project.
The Heidelberg group strategically positioned themselves in the faculty for German language and sweetened the day for students and professors alike. Apart from raising 94€, their activities received lots of attention.
Overall, the various campaigns were a great success. GoAhead! is grateful that after such short time the college groups are already active, thanks!
01/12/2008: Signed T-Shirts and CD's from "Jamaram" are being auctioned on Ebay for GoAhead!
For Christmas the Munich based band "Jamaram" and GoAhead! decided to cooperate once more and offer signed merchandise of the group on Ebay. The profit will go entirely to Go Ahead!. As part of the merchandise fans can auction CD's, T-Shirts and an original drumhead. If you are interested please visit Ebay.
"Jamaram" has been a constant GoAhead! supporter for over a year now. During every concert they pass a hat through the audience and ask for donations. At the moment the band is on an exciting tour through Uganda.
We would like to use the opportunity to wholeheartedly thank "Jamaram" for their long lasting and reliable support!
01/12/2008: "Nacht der Jugend" exhibition in Bremen City Hall
On October 10th 2008 the „Nacht der Jugend"(Night of the youth) exhibition was held at the Bremen City Hall and GoAhead! had the opportunity to participate. Different projects and organizations were present and covered a wide variety of topics and fields. First and foremost the aim of the night was to reward social-political engagement and commitment of young students and also to offer the chance for other young people to get involved. GoAhead! was represented by several members and handed not only general information about our work and projects out but informed people particularly about the possibilities to get involved within GoAhead!.
A special honour was given to GoAhead! and our members Jan-Martin Frie and Tobias Maaßen, which were chosen to hold the opening presentation in the Mayor's Room, talking about GoAhead! and their experiences.
28/11/2008: Founding of the GoAhead! support group in Bremen
The new GoAhead! support group Bremen officially met for the first time on the 30th of October. The group consists of a mixture of pupils and students of the University of Bremen and Oldenburg. Although their young "age" the group already managed participate at several exhibitions and events in and around Bremen like the "Nacht der Jugend"(Night of the youth). For the future the group has already planned many activities and events to get more people engaged and promote GoAhead!'s vision and projects.
24/11/2008: Charity football tournament for GoAhead! in Heidelberg
On 8th of November 2008 the German department of the University of Heidelberg organized a charity football tournament to fundraise money for GoAhead!.
Around 40 players participated and the great turn-out of supporters much contributed to the vibrating atmosphere that afternoon. Furthermore, the buffet was quickly finished and provided a great source of donations. Additionally, several GoAhead! supporters were busy handing out information material and informing people about our work.
Altogether, the afternoon was extremely successful and besides several interested students and lectures the group could raise 110€ towards the Learning Center project.
This tremendous success led the University to already announce a second tournament in the near future.
21/11/2008: The GoAhead! support group meets Stefan Hippler in Dresden
On Saturday, 1st of November the recently founded GoAhead! support group in Dresden had the opportunity to meet catholic pastor, Founder of "Hope Capetown" and co-author of "Gott, Aids, Afrika" Stefan Hippler on a short visit back in Germany. He was back 'home' to receive the "Erich-Kästner Preis" (Price for humanity, tolerance and international understanding).
Firstly the group was surprised when Hippler arrived in a leather jacket and sunglasses. Hippler is known for rigorously promoting sexual contraception methods, such as condoms and criticizing the out-to-date practices of his church. He famously advocates for better HIV prevention facilities for members of the townships around Capetown. People might wonder why he is still a catholic priest, considering the differing views about issues around contraception, but for Hippler it is obvious, he loves god and the church and wants to help the latter to find the right track to face the challenges of a modern globalizing world.
He reminded that people should stop thinking they could change the world and rather start appreciating every little success they are making. This is not to say that any efforts are hopeless, on the contrary, he believes especially the many comparably small successes (e.g. our Learning Center) add up to a vastly important assistance we can offer developing countries.
The 2-hour conversation turned for most group members into a lasting and motivational experience and we would like to wholeheartedly thank Stefan Hippler for this opportunity and his already long-lasting support for GoAhead!
17/11/2008: Dance exhibition "DANCESTONED" a great success for GoAhead!
On the 8th of November, it was again time for GoAhead!to return to Jacobs University Bremen for the second time this year after having been there in March with the Young Zulu Warriors and their Musical Thula Sizwe. This time around the dance exhibition DANCESTONED 2008 was the occasion. Dancestoned is the brainchild of a group of students who have a strong passion for dance, and is organized annually mainly as a form of entertainment for other students and staff at the university; as well as for the opportunity to showcase their respective styles of dance.
This year the event was organized by the leaders of the breakdown dance club and successors to the creators of Dancestoned, Imiodella Emuze and Janetta Carlucci and also by Ankur Modi and Trevor Walker. Usually this event is free, but the organizers decided to charge a onetime entry fee of one euro for the event this year to help raise money to be used in the construction of a learning center (Project 2008) for orphans in KwaZulu , South Africa by the GoAhead! organization. All in all, 230 Euros was raised. Go Ahead! members Lys Kulamadayil and Tobias Maaßen were spectators to a breathtaking show full of dances which included Bollywood dance, rumba, ballet, Eastern European folklore/gypsy dance, Oriental dance, hip hop and Jazz. They used this opportunity to present Go Ahead! as a whole, as well the goals of the Learning Centre and the new Homes of Hope (hoh) project to the students.
GoAhead! would like to use this opportunity to thank Jacobs University Bremen for its support. We especially want to thank the two organizers Imiodella Emuze and Janetta Carlucci as well as the Breakdown dance club. We hope to have to opportunity to come back soon look forwards to future events at Jacobs University.
14/11/2008: Two new jobs with GoAhead!
After the recent introduction of four new, young team members, the job opportunities just keep coming! We are looking for two people interested in one of the following two fields of activity:
Publicity:
Within GoAhead!, publicity is defined as the development and maintenance of good relations to society. This includes increasing the organisation's profile by informing the public regarding our work and its background.
Tasks include identifying new ways to present GoAhead!, contacting potential sponsors and "multipliers" (prominent persons from politics, economy and society) and maintaining those contacts. Furthermore, those working in publicity are motivators for others wherever public appearances are involved.
Editor / Corrector (German language):
Running a country-wide aid agency involved considerable publicity work and written communication with members and supporters. Every month we are publishing numerous letters, newsletters, flyers and announcements. For all those materials to be up to our standard of professionality, they have to be free of spelling or grammar mistakes and well phrased. The Corrector's job is to ensure these qualities in our public documents.
05.11.2008: Creative relaxation at "Charity Chill" in Trier
„Charity Chill“ is the label for a beneficiary concert organised by Trier University student Maximiliane Rossmöller in co-operation with GoAhead!. Once again, the evening was in support of our major project for 2008, the construction of the Learning Centre (see projects).
Carolin Steck, a singer / songwriter from Sarbrücken provided the musical background, sometimes loud and sometimes quiet. Her guitar and harmonica tunes were very well received by the audience, before the slightly more rocky bad "Funky Strikes" from Bonn turned up the volume. During the break, GoAhead! presented the Learning Centre project.
The focus was on opportunities to get active with GoAhead!, especially within the recently founded college group at Trier University (trier@goahead-organisation.de). Many individual chats followed and confirmed the great interest there is to help.
Overall, the night was a total success. With about 100 people, the Cafe was completely full, we could book about 245€ in donations and the venue's owner was rather excited, suggesting to institutionalise the charity chill from next semester on.
03/11/2008:GoAhead! football at Heidelberg University
Under the „Go Ahead!“ label, the German language faculty at Heidelberg University will hold a football game for students and lecturers on 08/11. Since the beginning of this year the faculty is supporting GoAhead! as a college group. Anyone is welcome to join their effort to support children in South Africa. If you are interested, email fs.germanistik@urz.uni-heidelberg.de or proactive@goahead-organisation.de.

16/10/2008: Volunteer Power in Tsjaka, Namibia
This summer and autumn, the Mphe Thuto Primary School hosted no less than 7 interns, two of them working for the adjacent boarding school accommodation. With this kind of manpower, one can achieve a few things out of the ordinary: a biology project, an art project, a course in beginner's German and painting some buildings is on the ToDo list for the kids.
For 2009, MpheThuto is looking for two more interns; the time slots would be June to August and September to November, respectively. If you are interested, go to [www.mphethuto.de] and apply!
09/09/2008: Table tennis from Hude, Germany, dedicates victories to GoAhead!
Last weekend a new sponsor joined the GoAhead!community. The TV Hude table tennis team, active in the regional league, is going to donate €30 for each victory and €15 for draws. Captain Felix Lingenau handed a symbolic wallet to GoAhead!member Johannes Hillje who used to play in the team himself. He also got a chance to introduce our organisation to the 70 table tennis fans present. All donations will be used towards the Learning Centre project.
The season's first match ended in a 8:8 draw, leaving GoAhead!with our first table tennis sposored €15. We would like to thank TV Hude for their support and wish many victories upon them!
In April the HomesOfHope 2008 volunteers returned to Germany. They built a house for a 60 year old grand mum who is bringing up her eight grandchildren. Volunteer Frauke Bengsch is going to speak about her experiences during this building project. The speech is going to be held in Germany's northernmost city, Westerland on the Sylt island.
The next showing of her speech will be on 16/09/08, Nordseestraße 81 in Westerland (Sylt), 19:45.
27/08/2008:GoAhead! board member David Steinacker is visiting projects in South Africa
One of GoAhead!'s principals is close contact to our partner projects. The idea is for a project accepted into GoAhead!'s program to be visited by one of our members. Of course these visits have to be funded by the members themselves.
In this context, David Steinacker went to SA on 7/07/08 to keep an eye on new developments and recently added and potential projects. First, he met the director of the "Pastoral" pre-school in Kliptown, Soweto, where he had a chance to chat about the cooperation, but also meet the children. Another pleasant visit was paid to our partner "Heartbeat" in Pretoria where David could witness the progress of the new "Sekhethemphilo“ pre-school which is supported by GoAhead!. Furthermore, he was informed about the ongoing development of the GoAhead! funded Learning Centre in KwaZulu-Natal.
As a follow-up of the successful 2008 tour, David met the Young Zulu Warriors at the God's Golden Acre project. The young artists have vivid memories of their European adventure. The tour's profits funded new seating for the GGA theater in Cato Ridge.
Furthermore, David got to meet the director of the recently added "Zimele" project which serves as consulting centre for income generating groups. It offers workshops in finance, HIV/AIDS and community development in rural KwaZulu-Natal. David got an introduction to the project's history and philosophy, and got a chance to participate in one of their self-help workshops.
Overall, the two week trip was very successful. GoAhead! is very satisfied with the development of all visited projects, and gladly accepted the "Pastoral" pre-school and "Zimele" into our program.
23/08/2008:GoAhead! now offering fashionable T-shirts
From now on there is a new way of supporting GoAhead!: Wear our T-Shirt! For only €12 you can purchase a man's or woman's shirt on our website. Half the price is a donation directly to GoAhead!.
The distribution is going to be run by our new colleague Sandra O’Grady, thank you! We are planning to expand our assortment of merchandising in the future.
13/08/2008:GoAhead! supports new projects through volunteering
Among young people, the drive to go to Africa and help themselves is steadily increasing and some local projects are simply dependent on volunteer support. Ever since we came into existence we arranged volunteers to go to our partner projects, a list we recently enlarged by two new projects.
The first is Durbanville Children‘s Home; Situated 30 km north of Capetown, this projects takes care of the region's orphans. Secondly, we will send volunteers to Usakos Needy Children in Namibia. This project is situated between Windhoek and Swakopmund and aims at enabling township children to attend school by providing them with food and counseling.
We are looking forward to these new co-operations and hope to be able to arrange numerous volunteers for those projects. Please have a look at the volunteering pages for further information.
11/07/2008:Pro Active – Helping together with GoAhead!
Every person has skills which can help improve the lives of countless disadvantaged children in Africa. Our new program "Pro Active - Helping Together" we are trying to include eager citizens into our work.
This could be as a core member of the organisation, as an occasional helping hand at events or as an independent supporter planning your own campaigns - we can use your help! Our Pro Active team will help people individually to identify the way they can make the biggest difference. We offer our experience to help you realise your own ideas.
Getting active can be extremely easy: an information kiosk at uni, a stall at a flea market, a donation box or a beneficiary concert. Even if you have doubts, such campaigns always receive great feedback and GoAhead! can help you out with the necessary promotion materials like flyers and posters. We are there to help you help!
25/06/2008:GoAhead! annual general meeting in Königsfeld, Germany
Our first annual general meeting was held on 22/06/2008 in Erdmannsweiler (Black forest) and was well received. After another year of GoAhead!'s efforts, this assembly constitutes a public presentation of our achievements. As there were no board elections this year, the main focus was on a review of our activities.
GoAhead! has grown to 225 members from all walks of life. Presentations included accounts from the managers of the various fields and reviews of the events of last year, like meeting President Köhler and Desmond Tutu, the great AIDS ribbon in Walsrode and all the other large and small events.
The donations raised (about €20.000) exceeded our expectations. Our website is another success story, with more than 150 hits per day. Our young members, mostly high school and university students, have the ambition to ensure that all donations can entirely be passed on to Africa. All transactions were checked by an independent committee and satisfied this requirement. An extension to our constitution was accepted unanimously, meaning that in the future GoAhead! can officially be host to cultural events. New programmes like "Pro Active" and the "Learning Centre" project were introduced and perspectives for the year coming were discussed.
We are extremely grateful to the Bildhauer family who hosted our meeting and put up numerous of the members who had undertaken the trip.
22/06/2008: Surprising 500€ donation for GoAhead!
The School of International Business (SiB) in Bremen organised their 6th economic congress this year. On June 3rd and 4th, numerous interesting presentations, discussions and workshops centred around the theme "Made in Germany" were held. On the first evening, live music and a raffle were part of a major evening event. GoAhead!chairman Jan Bildhauer was rather surprised to be chosen to draw the lucky winner's tickets, and was afterwards presented with a cheque over more than €500! This donation was raised from the proceeds of the raffle and cover fees. The GoAhead! team thanks the organisers of the SiB congress, Martin Wiesneth, Anne Riedel, Tanja Tütken, Katja Hiller, Irina Wollrath, Birte Christiansen, Christin Schwarze, Sven Tomschin, Renée Sachse, Franziska Schulz and Iwona Wysocka.
10/06/2008: Newspaper Interview
On June 5th GoAhead! members Jan Bildhauer and Tobias Maaßen met journalists Moya Irvine and Melanie Helmers of the Carl Ed. Schünemann Verlag publishing house. The topic of the conversation was what young people do when they go abroad, but was extended to the history of GoAhead!and our programmes today.
Impressed by GoAhead!'s development, the journalists extended the interview from half an hour to three times that time. Beside a breakdown of current facts and figures special emphasis was placed on this years major project, the "Learning Centre", and a recently initiated program called "Pro Active - Helping Together" which is intended to integrate volunteers in GoAhead!'s work.
We are looking forward to the publication of the interview in the papers „Read on“ and „Presse und Sprache“ ("Press and Language"). Thank you!
08/06/2008: Successful charity concert in Dresden
On Wednesday more than 170 partied for a good cause. GoAhead! had invited the bands „Burning Knees“ and „Just for Funk“ who made for a very entertaining evening.
"First I got a little nervour because not that many people turned up. But in the end turnout was great, the venue packed. Very impressed!" said GoAhead!board member Tilman Rodenhäuser. With a few local members he installed a little info table which received plenty of attention.
Also financially the night was a success, with €733 raised from cover fees and "charitable drinks". As always, the money goes straight to our partner projects in Africa and constitutes another step along the way to our Learning Centre. We would like to thank the involved bands and everyone who helped to make it a great night!
03/06/2008: The first international member has joined GoAhead!
Go Ahead! welcomed our first international member, 18 year old Tariq Tobias Omarshah from Zimbabwe. He heard about us on the internet and was instantly excited:
„I heard of Go Ahead! from a friend and have been following its development and growth closely. As a Zimbabwean, the mission of Go Ahead! holds special resonance with me. It is a great pleasure to join and be a part of something larger than myself: making a difference in the lives of those who most need it.“
This is one more success of our continued promotion efforts, especially on the internet. We'd like to welcome Tariq and are proud to have expanded our network to Zimbabwe!
02/06/2008: Arts & Crafts project at the Mphe Thuto Primary School
In May, an arts and crafts project was conducted at the Mphe Thuto Primary School in co-operation with donors and interns from Germany as well as local teachers. Experimenting with paint and materials was great fun for the children who made masks from paper-maché and used them in a theater play. GoAhead! intern Steffie Liebig ran the workshop supported by Anna Boschütz and Sarah Monzel. Donations from Horst Pauly and Norbert Kömen enabled them to purchase the necessary materials.
Go Ahead! started sending volunteers to the Mphe Thuto Primary School in Namibia about a year ago. They assist teachers in lessons, organise afternoon programmes an dtake care of the school children. This summer more interns will be helping out at the school, planning to run biology, arts and other workshops.
Interested? Please find more information about the volunteering program: Mphe Thuto.
26/05/2008: Charity concert in Dresden
On 04/06/08 GoAhead! will join forces with the bands „Just for Funk“ and „Burning Knees“ to organise a concert in Dresden's "Bärenzwinger" venue, an event planned since February. Flyers are ready, posters out on the street, and the local newspapers will announce the concert in the next few days. It is the first major GoAhead!event in Dresden and our next step towards funding the "Learning Centre". We are hoping to attract a wide audience and meet people interested in our work. The concert starts at 8:30 pm, tickets are €4. Of course, all profits go to our partner projects in South Africa.
05/05/2008: GoAhead! gives speech at the Technical school (FTS) in VS-Schwenningen.
Invited by the head of class Mrs. Huber, GoAhead!member Daniel Rambla who graduated from the school himself held a presentation about Africa and GoAhead!'s work. Mrs. Huber had heard of Daniel's voluntary service in South Africa at one of the Young Zulu Warriors shows. Today, Daniel builds on his SA experience in his work with Off Road Kids.
One class was so excited about our work they spontaneously took on the sponsorship of a child for one year. Further plans include a christmas fundraiser and another Homes of Hope group from the school.
We would like to thank Dr. Konrad Mach, Mrs. Huber and Mr. Lahmers, and look forward to future activities at FTS.
27/04/2008: Jan Bildhauer speaks at the Rotary Club of Bremen-Bürgerpark
On 24/04, chairman Jan Bildhauer was invited to give a speech at the Rotary Club of Bremen-Bürgerpark. Jan had a good half hour to introduce GoAhead! to the club members and answer their questions regarding the situation in South Africa. Coincidently, he had met the club's president Olaf Gründahl before the presentation when he gave him a lift to the hotel where the speech was held. The present members of Rotary were visibly impressed by GoAhead!'s rapid development during the last year and pleged their support in the future. We are very appreciative of this opportunity and extend our gratitude to Dr. Elmar Schreiber and the Rotary Club Bremen-Bürgerpark (bremen-buergerpark.rotary1850.org). If you are interested in having GoAhead! present at your organisation (be it a school, university, community, company or club) please do not hesitate to contact us!
12/04/2008: The „Homes of Hope“ Team has returned from South Africa
After four strenuous weeks, the first time house builders of the "Homes of Hope" team have safely returned to Germany. Unanimous verdict: missin accomplished! The group of young people constructed a house in a rural area in Kwa-Zulu Natal. It will serve as a domicile for a granny who lost her own children and is now taking care of her eight grandchildren. Weekend trips allowed for recovery from the hard work and gave team members a chance to discover Africa's beauty. The group was accompanied by GoAhead! board member Jan-Martin Frie. More information about the "Homes of Hope" project, as well as the team blog, are available here in German.
06/04/2008: GoAhead!visits Stefan Hippler and his HOPE project in Capetown
Stefan Hippler's organisation "HOPE", based in Capetown, has recently welcomed high-profile guests like President Horst Köhler and Chancellor Angela Merkel. Hence, we were especially flattered to be granted a meeting with the head of the German Christian community in the cape area. Board member Johannes Hillje and Hippler exchanged reports about the background and activities of their respective organisations. Hippler, who recently published the book "God, AIDS, Africa" in Germany, founded HOPE in 2001. Seven years on, it has established itself as one of the most well-respected NGOs in the cape region. Besides building a hospice for HIV positive children, HOPE promotes the training of health staff and is present in many local township surgeries. Through close co-operation with the University of Stellenbosch, the NGO managed to expand its expertise to research. Since they are also connected to educational projects, the possibility of a liaison was discussed with project co-ordinator Yasmin Buettgen. [www.hopecapetown.com]
05/04/2008: GoAhead! thanks the Proventus AG and Probis GmbH
GoAhead! board members David Steinacker and chairman Jan Bildhauer met the nationwide chair of Proventus AG, Jürgen Roffmann (pictured left) to award his company a GoAhead!certificate for their outstanding support for the Young Zulu Warriors Tour. The organisation hinted at future co-operation, and we are happy to welcome a new industry partner for GoAhead!
Furthermore, after his return to Germany, David met representatives from GoAhead!s partner Probis GmbH, based in Walsrode (pictured right). After the sponsor has, for the second time, footed the bill for GoAhead!s printed promotion materials, members of staff Wolfgang Arndt and Daniel Friedrichsen were awarded a certificate, too. We thank Probis for their reliable support in print and media affairs, and are looking forward to continuing our liaison!
14/03/2008: The Young Zulu Warriors from SA perform in packed theaters
African vitality, acrobatic dances and powerful voices filled the sold out venues of the tour so far. Audiences appreciated emotional and professional performances of the musical "Thula Sizwe" with standing ovations. GoAhead! administered the concerts in Bremen, Pinneberg and Walsrode and is more than happy with the results. More than 500 people came to the show in Bremen's cathedral while about 350 saw it at the Jacob's university cinema. Another 500 joined in Pinneberg, and even 700 in Walsrode. We would already like to extend our gratitude to the volunteers who sacrificed hundreds of hours in preparation, the host families who warm-heartedly welcomed the Zulu Warriors, and the sponsors who enabled us to organise the tour in the first place. Especially the Proventus Group, our partner in northern Germany, stood out. A special encounter was German pop star Cosma Shiva Hagen's appearance at the Walsrode show where she pledged her support for GoAhead!
08/03/2008: GoAhead! meets Desmond Tutu in Capetown
Last December, GoAhead!members were honoured to meet South African Bishop and Nobel laureate Desmond Tutu in Berlin. He spoke some wam-hearted words regarding our work into a camera, a clip available on our home page. We kept in contact and a few weeks ago GoAhead! received a letter of endorsement from Bishop Tutu, as well as an invitation to a Capetown service.
Last Friday, GoAhead!board member Johannes Hillje followed this invitation. He happens to be in Capetown on a university related internship. In the city's historic St. Georges Cathedral, Tutu personally welcomed his international guests and took them out for coffee after the mass. Thanks to the small circle of people present, Johannes managed to have a personal conversation with the Nobel laureate who praised GoAhead!'s "youth". His interest in our organisation was shared by other guests like the German ambassador in South Africa, Dr. Uwe Kaestner, Tutu biographer John Allen and a representative of the WHO.
Shortly before this meeting, Tutu was taking part in the Kenya peace talks. The opportunity to meet him was a great honour, and an unforgettable morning. GoAhead!would like to thank Tutu's assistent Lavinia Browne for organising the meeting.
24/02/2008:GoAhead! informs about voluntary work
On the 10th of February, about 2.000 visitors made their way to the Rübekamphalle in Pinneberg, Germany, to visit the Voluntary Engagement Fair. Beside 60 other North German societies, GoAhead!was represented by Daniel Meyerhoff and Jan-Martin Frie.
The attention our young organisation received could not have been greater, and our promoters were given no break. People were mostly interested in becoming active for GoAhead!, and the different opportunities of financially supporting us. We expect our membership numbers to keep rising.
Furthermore, we sold large numbers of tickets for the upcoming Young Zulu Warrior Show in Pinneberg, even to many people who had seen the musical in 2006 and cannot wait for its return!
17/01/2008:GoAhead! guest at the radio station "Hit Radio Antenne" in Hanover
On thursday 10/01/2008, GoAhead!member David Steinacker followed an invitation to the station. The connection had been established through personal contacts, and the radio team were immediately impressed by David's work. Main purpose was to advertise the upcoming Young Zulu Warriors concert tour through Germany and the Netherlands which the main studio morning team promised to attend.
The show will be broadcasted around February in Lower Saxony, Bremen and Hamburg and will hopefully draw attention to the tour. We would like to thank anchor Torben Hildebrandt who took the time to meet us!
12/01/2008:GoAhead! board meeting in Walsrode: conclusions and future plans
On the weekend of 05/012008 the GoAhead!board gathered in Walsrode and held an extensive summit. During the two days an evaluation of the past six months' activities, determining strenghts and weaknesses and the development of a strategy for 2008 were the paramount issues. We were looking back to our beginning, happy to conclude that the goals set in Kassel in September had been achieved. All projects in Germany have taken off as planned, the co-operation with our South African partners works well and fundraising has commenced. In 2008 we shall focus on strenthening the partnership with "Heartbeat" in Johannesburg, increase publicity in Germany and hence find more members and donors. After two days in an intense working atmosphere all were exhausted yet content with the meeting. Our special thanks go to the Steinacker family who hosted this meeting and provided great culinary joy.
09/01/2008: Christmas party a great success – 300 guests celebrate in Ettwein hall
In co-operation with the „Moppedgang“ (www.moppedgang.de) and the „KJG Neuhausen“ (www.kjg-neuhausen.de), GoAhead! invited to our first christmas party. 300 relatives and friends showed up. Celebration was not the only purpose of the event, as support was raised for GoAhead! while Maius and the band "We are Tom Jud“ (www.myspace.com/wearetomjud) as well as „DJ Hackepeter and friends“ ensured a packed dancefloor. Thanks to volunteers and the Ettwein company who let the event hall for free, we could raise 1500€ for GoAhead!. The party's non-profit character was a great incentive for people to come and celebrate into the morning hours. Hopefully we can turn this idea into an annual event.
