1. What distinguishes GoAhead! from other NGOs?

Go Ahead! is one of the few German NGOs which was founded and has been lead only by young people. Our motivation is grounded in a one-year stay in South Africa, which enabled us to get an insight into numerous fields of development cooperation. We consequently gained a detailed and profound impression of what is really needed there: education, as the only sustainable help for and in Africa. That is why we focus on education projects which enable young people to receive primary school education and to be prepared for further education.

In Germany, we concentrate on giving especially young people the chance to become active and to bear responsibility. In well-known organisations, however, this chance is mostly reserved for long-established members, who have worked for their organization for years. It is moreover our aim to sensitise people for the issue of poverty and AIDS in Africa.

2. Why found a new organisation, when there are so many already?

It is its organisation and structure, which distinguishes Go Ahead! from other organisations. Go Ahead! is mainly managed by young and dedicated adults, yet we are supported by a mentor network. Go Ahead! gives young people the chance to become active themselves and thus to contribute to altering people’s situation in South Africa.

Because of its lean and transparent structure, Go Ahead! ensures that donations reach the designated projects. In order to testify this and to submit ourselves to an extern control, we are dedicated to get the “Deutsches Spendensiegel” (“German donation seal”) of the DZI (German Institute for social matters) as soon as possible, i.e. within the next year.

We also issue a guarantee that the full amount of money donated within our sponsorship projects - be it the Heartbeat or the Crafcor Pre-School project – is provided without deducting any administration fee.

3. How does GoAhead! ensure your donations reach the right projects?

Bearing personal relation to all projects, we uphold a close relationship to all people in charge on the ground. This enables us to stay in permanent contact with our partners in South Africa and is also helpful to monitor und thus ensure the donation's arrival at the projects. It is needless to say that we only cooperate with organisations which are registered in South Africa as non-profit associations and are able to prove this by certificates.

Our finances are scrutinized annually by our cash auditor and within this procedure they are to be presented at the annual general meeting. Besides the scrutiny, the German finance office controls our transactions and donations. Thus, the correct and responsible processing of all our finances and donations is absolutely assured!

4. How can I find out where my donation is needed the most?

Appeals for funds in relation to our current projects are to be found on our website. In order to find out where the donated funds are needed most it is best to send an e-mail to the following e-mail address: info[at]goahead-organisation.de. We will reply to your request as soon as possible.

As our organisation cooperates with partners in politically rather unstable regions, so-called “emergency needs” occur frequently and thus require immediate and fast action-taking.

5. How can I integrate my individual skills into the organisation?

If you are interested in working for Go Ahead! please send an e-mail to aktiv_werden[at]goahead-organisation.de. Please attach a brief description of yourself, i.e. your fields of interest and your motivation for becoming a part of our organisation. We will inform you immediately about tasks and activities that may suit you. We are grateful for any help and support!

6. Does GoAhead! issue donation receipts?

For donations of more than €200, Go Ahead!, as a non-profit organisation, is entitled to issue contribution receipts. These can of course be brought to bear at the revenue office. For donations of less than €200 an ordinary transfer voucher suffices.

7. Is GoAhead! linked to any party or religion?

Go Ahead! is a non-party organisation and considers itself as non-denominational. Working for and with Go Ahead! just involves supporting our collective vision. Whereas the personal incentives may differ individually, we are all connected by the following aim: To give children who were bereft of any perspective due to AIDS and/or poverty a chance for a better future by means of education.

8. How are new projects integrated into GoAhead!s agenda?

When a new project attracts the attention of Go Ahead!, we first contact the person in charge on the ground. We try to find out more about the structure of the organisation and how it operates through a written exchange via mail or e-mail. As a matter of course we pay due attention that the project is accredited as charitable and that the organisation holds the respective certificates. Thereafter, Go Ahead! decides according to the available information, in what way we are going to support the project and we agree upon the temporal and financial scope of the assistance. As soon as we reach agreement, a “memorandum of understanding” in which all the legal and financial proceedings are documented is signed by both chairpersons and then the work can begin!
